Own the standard
Every front at the standard, the loop on rails. Audit yourself honestly — where are you still coasting?
Awake when it would be easier not to be. Steady with it.
The WatchBefore you read this rank
No man stands watch on all four at once. There is a front where you are still on the floor, and standing watch over the other three does not buy it off. Rank here is about the practice, not about skill — a man can be a beginner on a front and still hold it.
This week: find that front. Ten minutes on it, today, the same as any man starting out.
What this rank is
The Watch is what the whole system is pointed at, and it is the one rank you never clear. You stand watch. You do not complete watch. The practice isn't a thing you run anymore — it's the thing you are. Not because it went automatic, but because you have chosen it so many times that the choosing is who you are.
A man on watch is responsible for the people in his care, whether they are watching him or not. That's the whole picture. You keep watch over your body, your money, your mind and your soul — and over the people in your house who are counting on you to be awake. Aware of what's out there, and calm about it. Not paranoid. Ready. And the work turns outward here, because it has to. You pick up a man behind you and hold him to the floor. A watchman who only guards himself isn't standing watch. He's just awake.
And you take inventory. Every few years a man should look hard at what he is actually doing and ask whether it still serves the life he has now — then change it without apology. But the fronts never change. Body, provision, mind and spirit are permanent. What you do on each one is a lease. A man can trade the bike for the mat without trading away his body; he cannot drop the front and call it reinvention.
By the time a man is standing this watch, he has run out of excuses and stopped looking for new ones. He is not perfect on any of the four and he knows it. He just refuses to leave one of them unattended. This is the rank every man on the path is climbing toward. Not perfection. Not arrival. A watch you keep.

Every rank is measured on body, provision, mind, and spirit. Here’s what The Watch asks of you.

The rank
There is no finish line here, so there is nothing to finish and quit. The floor never moved — you did. Ten minutes is still here on the bad days. It just isn’t most days anymore. The full plan will be Volume Three, which is not written yet. Here’s the shape of it.
Every front at the standard, the loop on rails. Audit yourself honestly — where are you still coasting?
The man coming up behind you needs someone to hold the line. Teaching is the last rep of mastery.
Strong, steady, and multiplying. The practice is climate, the men behind you are stronger for it, and the standard has a face — yours.
This is the standard you hold and raise every day, and the rank where the work turns outward. It will be Volume Three — the last one to be written, because it is the last one earned.
Volume Three follows The Forge. Start with Volume One at $29.99 — no man skips the floor.
The path
Three ranks, one practice. The floor never moves — ten minutes, four fronts. What changes is the question you’re answering.
Build the practice.
The man who wants to change.
“Did I show up?”
The practice holds.
The man taking shape.
“How do I make this better?”
Stand the practice.
The man they count on.
“Who is depending on this?”
